permithours.app. Not affiliated with any state DMV, BMV, MVD or driver licensing agency. Many states require their own form at the licensing office; copy your totals onto it. Requirements change: confirm with your state before you apply.
Paper logs get lost. The hours should not.
What paper does well
It needs no battery, it is accepted everywhere, and a parent can initial it at the curb. For the states that want their own signed form, paper is the last step either way.
Where it goes wrong
Six months of drives on one sheet in a glove box. Nobody writes the end time until the next morning. Night minutes get guessed. The sheet is in the other car on test day.
The app does the arithmetic part: it times the drive while it happens, splits day and night at your local sunset, adds the totals against your state's goal, and fills a DMV-ready PDF with every session. You still print and sign where your state asks for its own form; the numbers are just already right.
States that want their own log form
These states publish an official log or affidavit. Use this sheet to keep the running record, then copy the totals onto the state form before the licensing office visit. The form link is on each state page.
